Whether salty or sweet, we know that Colombian cuisine is delicious. Today, we would like to show you a recipe for this Colombian treat that will delight your taste buds. Arepas are rounded pieces of dough made with dry corn flour, water, and salt, and depending on the region, cheese—a simple combination that gives a flavorful result.
Are you ready to try them? This recipe will not disappoint you!
2 cups corn flour
2 cups warm water
1 tablespoon salt
1 ½ cups (150) grams mozzarella cheese
Mozzarella cheese to taste
In a bowl, add water and salt and stir with a Spoonula. Slowly add the corn flour and stir until smooth. Add the mozzarella cheese and mix well.
Form the dough into balls of the same size and then flatten them into a circular shape. If you wish to fill your arepas with cheese, take one arepa, place cheese in the middle and cover with another arepa—imagine it is a sandwich!
Preheat the Classic Grill Pan on the Induction Cooker, grease the utensil with butter, and add the arepas. Cook for about five minutes on one side, then flip them and cook the other side for five minutes more.
That’s it. You will have tasty arepas in the blink of an eye. You can enjoy them with the toppings you prefer. We definitely recommend you try hogao (a Colombian tomato and onion sauce), suero costeño (a fermented milk-based condiment), and guacamole. You will love it!
